2. Use of the product
First of all, I sincerely apologize to you for our team’s mistakes. Your company has sponsored us with a half price of titanium alloy pipes to make exhaust manifolds and exhaust manifolds. But because of our lack of welding experience, the titanium alloy becomes brittle after repeated heating and cannot be welded. In the end, we can only use stainless steel pipes to make exhaust. After changing the material, a huge gap between stainless steel and titanium alloy exhaust was also found:
On the one hand, there is a weight problem. The final stainless steel exhaust is completely heavier than the previously designed titanium alloy exhaust. The lightweight of the car body is undoubtedly a very critical part in the formula competition. Therefore, the use of titanium alloy materials is the only way.
On the other hand is the sound wave. The natural frequency of titanium alloy makes the exhaust sound more vigorous and powerful, which is also the sound ray of exhaust made of titanium alloy. However, after changing to stainless steel, the exhaust sound is very noisy, and the problem becomes more prominent during tempering. As for the titanium alloy material provided by your company, we finally only retained the titanium alloy flange.

4. New season design ideas
In response to the problems in the 2016 season, we have the following plans for the exhaust design this year:
1. Regarding the exhaust design, our team has already started to consider changing from the 421 type to the 411 type.
2. Learn how to make the welding bearing from the Yanxiang team of Yanshan University, so that the welding can avoid the situation of repeated heat and large deformation last year.
3. Do your best to study the resonance phenomenon, and strive to achieve the most obvious resonance effect.
5. Outlook
Through this year’s failure, we have summed up the experience and lessons, gained a lot of welding knowledge from it, and have a deeper understanding of the characteristics of titanium alloys. In the 2016 season that just passed, although the team only finished the race in a ranking that was not close to the top, we knew that we were brave after we were ashamed, and we were determined and confident to achieve even more gratifying results through the efforts of the team in the 2017 season.
We have participated in the 6th China Formula Student Competition. It can be said that it is an older team. We have also found advantages and insufficient students in the annual competition. The lessons learned will guide us in the future. far. I believe that in 2017, we will drive a better-performing car in the Xiangyang Circuit with a more mature team appearance, and work hard for the dream of every team member.
